Stock Market News Today: Dow, Nasdaq Edge Higher; Nvidia Stock in Focus

Meanwhile: Another day, more AI drama. OpenAI said Sam Altman will return as chief executive of the artificial-intelligence startup, ending a standoff that began when the board fired him last week. Nvidia shares slipped a day after it reported blockbuster sales of chips used in AI.

Stocks rose. The S&P 500, Dow industrials and Nasdaq Composite all gained ground. Autodesk and Deere sank as investors reacted to recent earnings reports.

Travel stocks gained. Airlines and cruise operators were among the best-performing stocks in the S&P 500. Marriott’s shares were on pace for a record close.

Treasury yields were on track to rise after four days of declines. Ten-year yields edged higher after settling Tuesday at 4.417%.

Crude-oil futures fell. A weekend meeting of the OPEC cartel was postponed. Energy stocks also lost ground.

Bitcoin prices edged lower. The cryptocurrency remained above $36,000. Binance Coin, the exchange’s native token, fell.

Overseas stocks were mixed. The Stoxx Europe 600 and Japan’s Nikkei 225 edged higher. China’s Shanghai Composite Index slipped.
